Mr. Jamal T. Aziz received a master’s degree in civil (transportation) engineering from Georgia Tech in the United States of America in 1984.
He immediately commenced his professional career as a project engineer for Oman Civil Aviation Authority which is entrusted with developing airports and aviation systems in Oman. After 11 years of active involvement in airport development as a technical director, he was transferred to the maritime field in February 1996.
Mr. Jamal Aziz was to utilize his knowledge and experience in project management of port development nation-wide in his new capacity as the Director General of Ports and Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transport and Communication.
Under his management the Port of Sohar was established as an industrial port of great importance in 2002, Mr. Aziz led the team representing the Government of Oman in the negotiations with the Port of Rotterdam to develop and manage the Port of Sohar through Sohar Industrial Port Company SAOC (SIPC), a joint venture equally owned by both parties.
Mr. Aziz was appointed as the Deputy CEO in 2003 for Sohar Industrial Port Company. Since then, Mr. Aziz together with a management team of professionals has managed to turn the Port of Sohar into one of the most important projects of Oman with a number of renowned multi-national industries and service providers.
In 2007, the Port of Sohar was mature to move into the next phase and 4500 ha was added in the concession agreement for the development of Freezone Sohar. Mr. Aziz has taken on the role as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2010 for this giant upcoming structure when it is being launched this year and customers are already coming on board.
