Company Profile

Situated at the major East-West shipping lane, the Port of Salalah provides the region's best location in order to access the Middle East, the Indian Sub-continent, East Africa and the Indian Ocean Island with over 2.5 billion consumers. The Port of Salalah is situated in Dhofar in the southern region of Oman, located 15 km south of Salalah.

The government holds 20% of the venture, which will be run for a 30-year concession period by Salalah Port Services Company (SAOG) to manage, operate and act as Port Authority.

The Port of Salalah combined with the Salalah Free Zone and Salalah Airport form an ideal location for value-add manufacturing and distribution. Leaders in bulk goods (cement, minerals, lime, grain and agriculture, methanol and liquid, building material), manufacturing (PET plastics, auto components, garments, auto components) and logistic companies are choosing the Salalah Hub for production and supply chain efficiency. Flexible logistic solutions allow for companies to import and export via multi-modal options that have proven to be cost-effective. FDI into the Salalah Hub is valued at over US$ 4b billion.h
 
The A.P. Moller-Maersk Group has 30% of the equity through its subsidiary,  APM Terminals. The current shareholding also includes 21% with various institutional investors and 29% with pension funds and private investors. Shares of Salalah Port Services Co., SAOG, have been consistently strong on the securities market which views the company as one of the most efficient and well-run organizations in the country. The Salalah Port Project is hailed as an example of a successful public/private partnership. The project is seen as the engine for economic development of Southern Oman as well as significant in diversifying the economy away from the oil and gas sector.

Mr. Ali Akak becme the Deputy CEO, Port of Salalah in 2008 and is currently the Acting CEO, Port of Salalah. Previously, he served as the Port's Chief Corporate Officer, the General Manager Human Resources. He was the Deuty, Wali Thumrait (1998- 2000), Head of Projects DG of Regional Affairs (1995-1998) and Economic Researcher for General of Regional Services (1993 -1995).
